Naturopathic Medicine
Naturopathic medicine covers a vast terrain,
and the following pointers may help to orient the interested reader.
The articles in this section describe the philosophy
of Natural Medicine and define its place in history. The "Hymn
to Zeus" by Cleanthes is widely regarded as the origin of the
concept of Natural Law in Stoic philosophy. The impact of
Stoic philosophy was felt through descendant philosophical streams
and influenced Hippocrates, an elder mentor of western medicine.
A great uncharted territory is ahead of and beyond
most of us today. A truer knowledge of the relationship
between health and Natural Law is the real "final frontier" (with
all due respect to the fictional heroes of Star Trek). Our
modern technology exceeds that of the ancients, but our ethics and
philosophy have descended far from their levels of achievement.
Our hope is that the concept of "progress" will come to include
ethical and spiritual advancement at least to match the technical.
