Open Letter to the Editor of the Reno Gazette Journal
Note: The following letter was written to the editor of the Reno Gazette Journal by a patient of Dr. James Forsythe about the positive results she has achieved in her battle against pituitary cancer. This letter had to be shortened in order for the newspaper to publish it, but we are posting the full version here.
Dear Editor,
Normally I wouldn’t take the time to write a letter to the editor of any newspaper. However, these are not normal times, and therefore I feel compelled to tell you a story.
I am a resident of New Jersey and live five minutes from Manhattan. I mention this only because there are so many renowned hospitals in the New York metropolitan area, yet I find myself seeking medical attention in your fine state of Nevada.
I had an inoperable malignant pituitary tumor which my local doctors said I would eventually die from. They sent me home and told me they would make me comfortable. But I was living every day in excruciating pain and there was nothing the medical profession could do to lessen my suffering. I was resigned to the fact that my fun days were over.
My mornings began around 5:30 AM with painkillers hourly until 8:30 AM. By then I would be able to take a shower. I would cry hysterically as I washed and conditioned my hair, because the water touching my head felt as if someone was dragging a million-pronged rake through my brain. It was necessary for me to wear dark prescription glasses at all times because of light sensitivity, and to correct the blurred and double vision caused by my tumor.
I was in debilitating, unrelenting pain, and I thought there has to be a better way to live. At the suggestion of friends, I decided to try a homeopathic route. I came to Reno in July 2006, and must confess I was a skeptic. After all, I had been to seven of the most renowned hospitals in the New York metro area, and if they couldn’t do anything for me in New York, then why, oh why, would Reno be any different?
I am happy to admit my skepticism was sorely misplaced. I was treated at the Century Wellness Clinic of Nevada by Dr. James Forsythe and his extremely professional and caring staff. Dr. Forsythe started me on a program which has changed my life. On the first day of my second week of treatment, I noticed I no longer needed my prescription glasses. My blurred and double vision was no more. My tumor had shrunk and no longer was pressing on my optic nerves. This in and of itself was a miracle. I had had those glasses of over six years! I continued my treatment for another two weeks in Reno before returning home to do the follow-up program Dr. Forsythe recommended.
I returned a few weeks ago for my checkup and was more than ecstatic to find the MRI scans showed the tumor is gone. I am no longer in pain and have begun to live again, not merely exist. My pre-tumor years were wonderful. I traveled quite a bit and visited 26 or so countries. I spoke five languages and held executive positions in New York and in Europe. As they say, I was a mover and a shaker. For approximately six and a half years while seeking treatment for my ailment, my life was ostensibly on hold. Now I am so excited. I can even fly again! Since my successful treatment at Dr. Forsythe’s office, I have regained my lost life, and I intend to savor every single minute of pain-free life this world has to offer.
During my time in Reno, I read articles vilifying this very professional healer who has been giving his homeopathic care to many people each day. I met several of them whom I felt were much worse off than I, and I have continued to communicate with them. They all feel the same as I – their lives have been spared the ravages of cancer after regular treatment.
What I cannot understand is why, when his patients are so satisfied and happy to be living, and living well at that, is he being attacked again and again by the FDA and the Nevada Medical Board, according to your articles, when he is only doing what he took an oath to do?
Last Friday, December 15th, while I was in his clinic, things were going rather slowly due to a Discovery Channel TV crew filming for an upcoming series called “The Incurables” about the life of a special young lady whom I had the pleasure of meeting while she was there from Texas at the same time as I. She was pronounced terminal by the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center after her long-term treatment for Ewing’s Sarcoma. After five weeks of treatment at the Century Wellness Clinic, she went into complete remission, as was confirmed by her doctors at M.D. Anderson after her return home to Texas. This young lady came into Dr. Forsythe’s office in a wheelchair, and at the end of her treatment went bowling in downtown Reno the day before she left for home.
How many miracles do you need to see before you believe in this wonderful doctor? How many wheelchair-ridden people must get up and walk? How many tumors must disappear? Should these cured patients drop by your office on their way home? I would think the local newspaper would be very willing to extol the virtues of this gifted healer, but alas, that is not so.
As Editor of the newspaper, I would assume you have executive authority and thusly decide what is ultimately printed. Here in Reno there are miracles happening on a daily basis, and I think the fine people of Reno would delight in this. I think the world would delight in this. You have the ability to share these wonderful success stories with so many, and yet this is not what I see on the pages of your paper. Instead, I read unverified, slanderous defaming the one person who seems to be helping so many such as myself.
We are the people that the traditional medical profession writes off. We are not write-offs! We are real people with real feelings. Dr. Forsythe is a highly qualified professional, and has given us back our lives one by one. He deserves our thanks, he deserves our respect, he deserves the respect of the medical community, and what’s more, he deserves your respect.
So take a bold move; print my letter. Even better, take the boldest move of all and send it out to the Associated Press so that people everywhere will know that there is hope. Let these people have a chance to live. Give them back their dreams. Give these people the ability to make an informed decision, and not just sit at home popping painkillers and waiting for the day when even the strongest painkillers no longer work.
Doing the right thing isn’t always easy, but picture yourself waiting in a long line outside those pearly gates. Wouldn’t it be nice to have a little feather in your cap as you make your approach? Wouldn’t it be wonderful for you to say, “I was instrumental in letting so many cancer patients get much-needed medical attention.” Wouldn’t it be wonderful to say, “I was instrumental in extending and improving so many lives”? Dr. Forsythe has the ability to help many; you have the power to influence many, many more.
So again, I beseech you; print my story; let the people come to Reno. And remember, when they come, they will rent your cars, stay in your hotels, eat in your fine establishments, shop in your stores, and spend their hard-earned money here in Reno. Let the people of Reno know this is a wonderful time for them as well as the cancer patients of the world.
Dear Editor, can you or any of your readers give me a reason why this man should not be given a parade of honor, instead of vilification?
I’m told Nevada has always been a pioneering state. In fact, Nevada was declared “The Health Freedom State” by your legislators. Your state has led the way for many wonderful innovations; why stop now? Take this opportunity to strike a blow against negativity and start promoting what you have right here in your midst in Reno.
