N-Acetyl Cysteine is a sulfur-containing amino
acid that maintains the proper functioning of the lungs
and supports the immune system and liver function.
A major consitutent of hair, it is a potent antioxidant
and immune-system stimulant. The N-Acetyl form is
superior to regular L-Cysteine and needs no supplemental
Vitamin C.
N-Acetyl Cysteine is extremely effective in
detoxifying the acetaldehydes found in cigarette smoke,
alcohol, pollution, and Candida infection. It greatly
enhances antioxidant
glutathione production, much more than taking glutathione
itself. This protects tissues (including the lens
of the eye) from free radicals produced by pollution,
UV radiation, and muscular exertion.
N-Acetyl Cysteine helps with
respiratory problems by breaking up mucus. It also
protects against damage to mitochrondrial DNA.
Recent studies have shown that using N-Acetyl Cysteine
as part of a weight training program can prevent
muscle loss while decreasing body fat. For optimal
antioxidant protection, N-Acetyl Cysteine may be taken
with
glutathione and adequate selenium.
(Conservative estimates recommend
800 mcg of selenium per day; experienced physicians find dosages as
high as 2.5 mgs. per day to be safe and protective.)
Dosage: As a maintenance dose, take 2 capsules
twice a day, morning and evening. In the case of
an active infection or asthma attack, take 2 capsules
every three hours for the duration of the illness.
Contents: 100 capsules, 600mg each.
