Mercury Detox contains nutrients used by
detoxification pathways for mercury and other heavy
metals, as well as amino acids that protect the central
nervous system from mercury toxicity.
Two capsules provide:
- N-Acetyl-Cysteine: 400 mg
- L-Methionine: 200 mg
- L-Leucine: 200 mg
- L-Valine: 200 mg
- L-Isoleucine: 200 mg
- Taurine: 150 mg
- L-Glutathione, Reduced: 100 mg
- Magnesium (Citrate): 25 mg (6% DV)
- Vitamin E (d-Alpha Tocopheryl Succinate): 75 IU (250% DV)
- Selenium (L-Selenomethionine): 150 mcg (210% DV)
Note: Daily Values (DV) have not been established
if they are not listed above.
Mercury (Hg) is a known cytotoxin and a naturally
occurring heavy metal in the environment. Mercury
toxicity depletes the supply of reduced glutathione in the
cells, causing oxidative damage to DNA. The tissues
most susceptible to oxidative damage are the kidney and
central nervous system. Mercury accumulation in these
tissues has been shown to occur even with low-dose
exposure. In addition, mercury has been shown to
inhibit immune system function.
The sources of mercury exposure include dental amalgam,
contaminated fish, off-gassing of soil and surface water,
occupational exposure to mercury-containing paints,
fungicides and pesticides, and combustion of waste oils
and other
landfill waste such as thermometers, electrical switches,
and batteries. Recent evidence in animal and human
studies demonstrates a significant contribution of dental
amalgam upon the total body burden of mercury.
Mercury vapor may even be released from dental fillings
by the mechanical action of chewing.
Selenium is an essential trace element which takes part
in the detoxification of mercury and directly protects
cells from free radical damage. Research indicates
that selenium competes with mercury for binding sites,
forms inactive mercury-selenium compounds, converts
mercury to less toxic forms, and protects against free
radical damage.
