Bi Yan Pian is a Chinese herbal medicine for rhinitis (irritation and inflammation of the nose).  It is known to help relieve rhinitis and sinusitis symptoms such as nasal congestion and stuffy nose with phlegm.  Rhinitis is usually associated with colds and flu, and can be caused by airborne irritants, viruses, or bacteria which trigger the release of histamine.  Histamine dilates the blood vessels in the nose and sinuses, causing swollen membranes and excessive fluid.

Clinical Dosage:  Administer half an hour before, or one hour after eating.  In the initial phases, dosage may be increased to 4-6 tablets every 2-4 hours, then reduced to a maintenance dose as the formula takes effect.  May be used medium-term for a few weeks to a few months.  If administered alone for acute symptoms, it is usually taken up to a couple of weeks.

Standard dosage:  3-4 tablets, 3 times per day.

Ingredients:  Xanthium sibiricum fruit, Magnolia biondii flower, Forsythia suspensa fruit, Saposhnikovia divaricata root, Angelica dahurica root, Anemarrhena asphodeloides rhizome, Glycyrrhiza uralensis root, Schizonepeta tenuifolia herb, Chrysanthemum indicum flower, Schisandra chinensis fruit, and Platycodon grandiflorum root.
