Cancer Salves: A Botanical Approach to
Treatment, a book by Ingrid Naiman. Soft
cover, 233 pages. Copyright 1999, Seventh Ray Press,
Poulsbo, Washington.
The methods described in this beautifully produced book
were traditionally
used mainly for breast tumors and skin cancers, but they
have been successfully employed for a wide variety of other
malignancies, including pancreatic, liver, and kidney
cancer. Derivative treatments can be used for
uterine-cervix and brain cancer as well as many abnormal
conditions affecting the lymphatic system. The
internal tonics, often regarded as more important than
the external, can be used as either primary or adjunctive
treatment for most cancers.
In the 1950s, the use of herbal cancer salves for tumor
destruction and removal had a 75 to 80 percent success
rate, but with the advent first of radiation and later of
chemotherapy, the method went underground. In this
fascinating and useful book, the author demystifies and
revives a major natural method of therapy. She
provides a complete description of how salves, herbal
tonics, and boluses work and why they are reasonable
alternatives to the procedures and protocols of modern
science. In the historical overview, the author
describes the salves and techniques used by leading
physicians and natural healers from the Middle Ages
onward.
In the color insert, she shows how tumors are broken
down by use of alkaloidal herbal pastes. Different
types of cancer salves and herbs are discussed, including
pros and cons of salve use and the conditions under which
they are safe and appropriate. Case histories and
methods are given. In a comprehensive appendix, the
author describes major anti-cancer herbs in considerable
detail, and she provides the exact formulae used by
famous physicians and practitioners of natural medicine
who developed poultices, pastes, and other herbal
remedies for cancer. A work of significant
historical research alone, Cancer Salves makes a
convincing case that many cancers are responsive to
treatments using botanical escharotics and their
adjunctive tonics.
About the Author
INGRID NAIMAN received a B.A. in Asian Studies from the
East-West Center at the University of Hawaii in 1962 and
an M.A. in Development Economics from Yale University in
1964. In the late 1960s, she worked for the U.S.
Department of State in Vietnam and India before returning
to the Himalayas and her first loves, mysticism and
meaning.
Internationally respected for her insights and clarity,
Ingrid lectures and writes on herbs and diet as well as
psychological and spiritual dimensions of the
psyche. She employs an energetic frame of reference
that she has rendered fully modern after many years of
study of ancient Greek, Tibetan, and Ayurvedic medicine.
Ingrid's view of the healing process is truly
comprehensive. Though she offers seminars on
medical herbalism, her private practice is limited to
counseling of persons committed to awakening hidden
aspects of the unconscious and aligning all parts of the
psyche in one life strategy. She teaches music
therapy and medical astrology and is a leading figure in
alternative medicine. She has received two
honorary doctorates for her work in holistic medicine.
If you are a health care professional or cancer
patient, this book can change the way you view cancer and
its treatment.
